Abortion Information

By: Chris Poppavich

Having a baby during the teenage years is likely not something that's planned for. Unfortunately, this seems to be a reality for many girls throughout the world. In a day and age of education and open communication one might think that teenage pregnancy would be a thing of the past, however, unwed mothers are becoming a growing part of our modern society.

Even more tragic than the prevalence of teenage mothers, is the ready acceptance of abortion as a way out of an unwanted pregnancy. If more abortion information was more readily available and more descriptive when it comes to the actual procedure and long-term outcomes, young women might be more likely to take responsibility for their mistakes, even if that means cutting short their days of carefree living.

Being a teenage mother is no easy task. However, in today's world where morals are out the window and pretty much anything goes, unwanted pregnancy is a reality for many teens. Without fully understanding the implications of their decision, many of these young girls hastily opt for abortion, not wanting to be saddled with the responsibilities inherent to parenthood.

However, abortion information seems to focus on the ease and simplicity of having an abortion. Little abortion information accurately describes the horrific procedures utilized in carrying out an abortion. Nor does this information convey the agonizing guilt and years of regret that are often encountered following the decision to abort.

How much better it would be if our society put more emphasis on morals and encouraged young people to make responsible decisions, rather than living a carefree lifestyle during youth, that can impact the rest of their lives. So too, if accurate and descriptive abortion information was made more readily available, that truly conveyed the horrifying methods often utilized, and the years of guilt and depression that can follow the choice of having an abortion, perhaps more young people would exercise greater caution and responsibility.

How many unwanted pregnancies could be avoided altogether, if young people were better educated and informed? Then, for those who still choose to become pregnant in their early years, this will be more of a choice rather than a catastrophe that is often hastily terminated by means of abortion. Along with accurate abortion information, much emphasis also needs to be placed on the need to take responsibility for one's actions.

So, too, accurate and helpful information regarding alternatives to abortion should be advocated and made readily available to these young women.

In this way, responsible decisions will be made for the well-being of everyone involved.
